Sunday night karaoke brings out young and old

If it’s early Sunday evening and you’re a devotee of karaoke, then it’s time to head for Eva’s Fine Mexican Food restaurant. Once inside the main door, you would need to make an immediate right turn and head for the Don Santos Cantina, or you can simply follow the sound of the music and the resonance of someone vocalizing to the melody. It doesn’t matter if you’re a balladeer, chanteuse, crooner, mezzo-soprano or an Irish tenor, nor does it matter if you have a tin ear and a raspy voice. Karaoke people are a very harmonious and congenial bunch and, most importantly, they’re nonjudgmental. In other words, if you’re singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and you wander off the musical road, so to speak, no one is going to laugh or point fingers. The karaoke process is handled by Casa Grande resident Jacob Miele, who bills himself as a mobile entertainer. Miele is quite well known and well regarded among the local organizations and businesses that have need of his services, which is to provide music for all occasions. He’s especially noted for his ability to stage karaoke events. Miele has had more than 10 years’ experience in the business, starting off as a deejay for an entertainment company, playing music at corporate events, weddings and special occasions, as well as handling a few karaoke gigs. After four years of working for someone else, he came home to Casa Grande and started his own business, Miele Entertainment. “I started my own business in 2005,” Miele said, “doing deejay work at weddings and other events, and I had a karaoke unit, and I decided why not give it a try. I started doing it Thursday nights at the Tumbleweed in Toltec, and people weren’t really into karaoke at that time. A year later, I started doing karaoke at McMashers on Friday nights, and that led to other opportunities, and it’s grown since then, and now I’m doing it Sunday nights at Eva’s.
