Sara Evans' return is 'Stronger' than ever REVIEW
“Any time you take time away, you wonder if you will be able to come back full throttle,” she said.
Judging by the reception from Sunday’s audience, she needn’t have worried.
Evans, one of the only traditional-sounding singers to emerge from Nashville in the late 1990s, stormed through her hits and a few songs from her latest album “Stronger,” showing the sizeable crowd that she was back and better than ever.
The early part of the one-hour-and-fifteen-minute performance was highlighted by good renditions of the Missouri born singer-songwriter’s hits, including the No. 1 standout “Born To Fly,” “Cheatin’” and “Backseat of a Greyhound Bus.”
Evans, who was backed by a fine six-piece band led by her brother Matt on bass, followed with an impressive version of 2002’s “I Keep Looking” and an equally fine rendition of 2006’s “Coalmine” before singing her latest single, a countrified cover of Rod Stewart’s “My Heart Can’t Tell You No.”
“I have been in love with this song since high school,” she said. “I hope you will love it as much as I do and will run right home after the show and download it.
“We have seven kids,” she reminded the audience. “We need your help!”
Evans then finished up her main set with her latest No. 1 hit, “A Little Bit Stronger” and a pair of her most popular tunes: 2004’s “Suds in the Bucket” and 2005’s “A Real Fine Place to Start.”
After a very brief exit from the stage, Evans returned to treat the audience to a wonderful two-song encore. On the first, she delivered a stunning rendition of Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man,” followed by a fun run-through of Tom Petty’s “Running Down a Dream.
